چکیده

Local pressure, developed between the socket of a prosthetic device and the accompanying body segment, reflects such matters as comfort, stability, and proprioceptive sense . Recent interest in these areas has led to the development of a number of devices to measure pressure . Most such devices, intended for clinical use (temporary mounting in the finished prosthesis) , necessarily protrude from the inner wall of the socket, resulting in the physical displacement of flesh . The best of recent models of such devices are roughly the diameter of a pencil and the thickness of a nickel (the coin) . Our concern is with the influence of the sensor protrusion from the socket wall into the flesh on the results obtained, i .e ., to what extent the pressure readings, presumably reflecting stump-socket values, are altered by the presence of a protruding clinical-type pressure transducer. An associated issue is the following: The sockets of amputees whose femurs are inadequately padded laterodistally are usually relieved in this region. If the relief is not properly faired into the adjacent wall, local irregularities are produced. It would be of interest to determine to what extent such irregularities alter local pressure. These issues have been studied experimentally employing four subjects, all vigorous above-knee amputees, equipped with quadrilateral, to-

Tangential pressure measurements in above-knee suction sockets.

Tangential pressure (TP) , as defined in this study, is that pressure parallel to and located at the socket inner face. The talrgential pressure resultant (TP,) will possess a horizontal component (TP,) directed along an axis perpendicular to the main socket axis and a vertical component (TP,) directed along the main socket axis (see Fig. 1). The plane in which all tangential pressures exist is...

The Results of Slip Measurements in Above-knee Suction Sockets

Slip is defined, in this study, as relative motion between the stump skin and the socket. An excessive amount of slip may lead to abrasive injury, inadequate control over socket position and, ultimately, possible loss of the prosthesis. Conversely, lack of slip may conceivably reflect excessive restraint obtained by too tight a fit; implicit are large stump socket pressures. This study was cond...

تخمین فشار متوسط شریانی توسط پایش تهاجمی فشار شریانی با مانومتر

Background: Direct monitoring of arterial pressure using a transducer system is not affordable in most operating rooms and ICU wards in Iran. It is, however, possible to use an aneroid manometer instead, but it is not standardized yet, nor studied enough and its measurements may not be interpretable. Methods: To study the correlation of the arterial pressure readings between a manometer and a ...

One difficulty is that the existing pressure pattern is disturbed by the...

Comparative study between patellar-tendon-bearing and pressure cast prosthetic sockets.

This study compared the pressure distribution at the residual limb and socket interface in amputees wearing a pressure cast (PCast) socket system with amputees wearing the patellar-tendon-bearing (PTB) socket. The PCast system requires the subject to place his or her residual limb in a pressure chamber. Pressure is applied to the residual limb while the subject adopts a normal standing position...
